I stood in 108 degree weather reading this information for about 10-15 minutes, and saw one car drive down the Main Street/Highway during that time. I looked around for anyone…
As I headed north back to the highway, I stopped at the home of Curtis Austin, The Windmill Doctor, to take a few photos. As I was shooting, he turned off the highway and into his driveway, so I waved and approached him. As we talked I was struck by the “Doctor’s” bright blue eyes contrasted with his suntanned, aging skin. They looked like turquoise set in bronze.
I wanted the dark ones to “win.” I wanted them to persuade their cohort to all collectively turn gray and heavy, and pour out their contents across this place. Liberally. I looked across the road and saw a tree. I imagined “he” was reaching toward the sky with the same message as I. “C’mon, clouds…give it up. Just let it go!”
I walked into the museum and was greeted by her. She sat at the desk, surrounded by busts of ancient Osage warriors, maps, artifacts and tribal dress displayed in glass cases. “Do you have any questions?” she asked. “No,” I replied. “Not yet.” I made my way to the corner case and began mentally walking…
